Healing Is More Than Medication and Surgery

What if caring for our health meant looking beyond what happens in a doctor's office?

For much of my 24 years caring for people, I've worked within the traditional healthcare system. I've care for people in hospitals, homes, infusion settings, and during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Healthcare can do extraordinary things. Medication can treat disease. Surgery can save lives. Technology can give us answers we once never had.

But somewhere along the way, I began thinking more deeply about what happens between those moments of medical care.

What helps us actually live well?

I believe healing is bigger than healthcare.

Healing happens in ordinary places.

It can happen around a table over a nourishing meal.

It can happen while creating something with your hands.

It can happen when someone finally sits beside you and really listens.

It can happen when you understand your medications instead of feeling overwhelmed by them, when someone helps you prepare for a medical appointment, or when you finally feel confident enough to ask the question you were afraid to ask.

And sometimes healing looks like rest, laughter, movement, time outside, community or simply feeling less alone.

None of those things replace good medical care.

They belong alongside it.

There is a gap between healthcare and living well.

After years of nursing, I've seen how much people are expected to manage on their own.

Appointments. Specialists. Medications. Insurance. Test results. Nutrition recommendations. Lifestyle changes. Caregiving. Work. Family.

Then we send people home and expect them to somehow put all the pieces together.

That space...the space between receiving healthcare and actually living your life...is where I believe we need more support.

Not necessarily more appointments.

More connection, guidance, education, and community.

That is where Wild Ginger begins.

Wild Ginger Healing Collective grew from a simple belief:

People need people.

I wanted to create a space where healthcare knowledge could exist alongside nourishment, creativity, conversation, and community.

A place where we can talk about our health without making illness the center of our lives.

A place where asking for help is normal.

A place where healthcare can feel a little more human.

And a place that recognizes something I've learned repeatedly throughout my career and my own life:

Living well is more than healthcare.

This journal will be a place to explore all of it. The practical and the personal. Healthcare navigation. Nourishment. Creativity. Advocacy. Rest. Connection. And the small, ordinary things that make life feel like ours.

Because healing isn't always about fixing something.

Sometimes, it's about learning how to live well within the life we're already living.

Welcome to Wild Ginger.
